The advancement of women in academia is of crucial importance in this context in order to ensure equal opportunities and increase scientific excellence. Despite significant progress, women are still underrepresented in many scientific disciplines, especially in leadership positions. 12 female professors and teachers at IJվƼ prepare for future leadership positions as vice rectors, deans and academic deans, etc. The Rector nominates scientists for this 3-year programme. The next programme is planned for 2025/2026.
Since 2001, the four universities in Graz – the University of Graz, the IJվƼ, the Medical University of Graz and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz – have put together a joint package of further education measures and equality-orientated personnel development measures.
The diverse programme on the topics of promoting young talent, career planning, advancement of women* and gender competence as well as gender mainstreaming is carried out by the Coordination Centre for Gender Studies and Equal Opportunities at the University of Graz.

In order to promote academic careers for women at IJվƼ, the university advertises tenure tracks specifically for women. A tenure track is a “post-doc” position with the possibility of further academic progression.

Female students at IJվƼ who are currently writing their dissertation are invited to attend a two-day workshop with the following content: Time management, work-life balance, reconciling the areas of dissertation, teaching and administration, life planning after the dissertation - career in business or science.
